Why is there no sculpture park in the Szechuan city of Chengdu?
Chengdu, China (AP) The park where Chengdu’s famous Cheeseburger is now a park is almost entirely vacant.
The Chengdu-based sculpture park known as the Sichuan Pavilion has been struggling to keep up with the demand.
“There is no sculpture area in Chengdu.
The park is so small, there is no way we can put more than 100 sculptures there.
We need to create more spaces,” Chengdu Mayor Huang Zhiyan told the local media.
Chengdu has about 150 million residents, but only five thousand of them work at the park, according to a government website.
“It’s not the right time to put sculptures in Chengdong.
People here are busy working and their work is not as visible,” Huang said.
The mayor, who is also the city’s economic development director, said the park had been in dire need of a major overhaul since the 1970s.
The park was founded in 1970 by Chengdu’s then-president, Mao Zedong, who was himself a sculptor.
He also commissioned Chengdu artist Cheng Mingyu to create the sculptures, which are all of Chinese origin.
After Mao died in 1976, the park was given over to the city government, which began spending $5 million annually on the park and installed more than 700 sculptures.
It was in 2009, however, when Chengdu city officials decided to make the park more accessible to the public by installing more sculptures.
The parks director, Wang Zheng, told the news site that the park has been the most visited park in Chengde in recent years, and it had been “a good success story” because of the influx of tourists and other visitors.
But the park is struggling to make up for the lack of visitors.
The number of visitors to the park decreased by 25 percent in the past year, Wang said, and the park’s official website said that a quarter of the park visitors are foreign.
As a result, the Chengdao pavilion has been closed for the last two months.
A sculpture park without a sculpture park has a lot of problems, Huang said, adding that the city is “not going to be able to keep its new projects running.”
The city’s budget has been cut by 40 percent since 2020.
The Cheesesteak sculpture park is part of the Chengdu Art Museum and Chengdu Municipal Museum, which is located in the heart of Chengdeng.
