Which sculpture will inspire the next generation of sculpture?
New York (CNN) — Which sculpture of a piece of art will inspire generations of sculpture lovers to make art?
The Art of Living is a collaborative effort to find out.
The New York Art Museum, which hosts the annual Art of Life sculpture contest, is hosting a contest for its first prize of $1,000,000.
The competition is the largest of its kind in the United States.
“I have been looking for something new for a long time,” said Art Director Andrew T. Jones.
“And this sculpture is so beautiful and unique and interesting.”
Jones has worked with the artist and curator John H. Poulter, who created The Great Pyramid of Giza in New York City.
Poulter said he wanted to create a piece that would inspire generations to make new sculptures, and so The Great Pyramids of Gia, The Great Sphinx of Gizmonde, and The Great Wall of China are among the winning entries.
“It’s about the imagination of our ancestors,” Poulters told CNN.
“I thought it would be a nice idea to think of what it would feel like to look up at the world and to be inspired by what the world looks like.”
“I was just blown away,” said Sarah E. Brown, the winner of the $500,000 prize for a new piece.
Brown said her work is a celebration of the history of the city of New York.
“I think it’s important to remember that the world is a city, and we are a part of it,” Brown said.
“The world is made of people, so we have to look at ourselves, our communities and the people around us.”
“It makes me feel like I’m part of something bigger than myself,” said Brown, who was born and raised in New Jersey.
“It gives me hope and motivation to keep pushing forward and make something new.”
Brown said the sculpture was a gift to the city that has changed over the years.
“The world was different then, but I love it,” she said.
The competition, which runs from October 14 to November 17, is open to anyone.
Entries are accepted online and can be submitted to The New York Arts & Entertainment Commission via the commission website.
